Spring bars, quick release or a band system?
How a strap attaches decides which straps fit, as much as the width does.
Spring bars
A small spring-loaded pin runs through the end of the strap and clips into holes inside the lugs. Most watches use them, so any strap of the right width fits.
Quick-release spring bars
The same spring bar with a small lever, so you can swap the strap by hand without a tool. Common on modern watches and many smartwatches.
Integrated bracelet
The bracelet is shaped to the case and has no standard gap between lugs. Only model-specific straps or an adapter fit.
Fixed bars
A bar is machined into the case, so the strap must pass under it: single-piece straps such as NATO or ribbon straps.
Band systems
Many smartwatches use their own connector, such as Apple Watch bands, Garmin QuickFit or Samsung's Dynamic Lug System. Only bands made for that system fit.
