Story
History
Jack Heuer designed the Carrera and named it after the Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico. The chronograph was released in 1963.
The first Carrera was the reference 2447. The 39 mm glassbox chronograph with the in-house TH20-00 movement debuted in 2023, for the Carrera's 60th anniversary.
The dome of the glassbox crystal reflects 1960s Heuer Carreras. The glassbox case itself first appeared in 2015.
What it brought to the industry
Fratello calls the Carrera the first watch made solely for auto racing.
Calibre 11, introduced in March 1969 in models including the Carrera, was billed as the world's first automatic chronograph movement with a microrotor.
For legibility, Jack Heuer moved the seconds scale onto the tension ring and the fifth-of-a-second scale onto its inner bevel.
