Do all Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra references take the same strap?

No. 5 different lug widths appear across the line, often by case size or generation. Check the reference engraved on the case back or between the lugs.

What is the lug width of the Aqua Terra 41 mm?

20 mm between the lugs on the current 41 mm Aqua Terra, according to Omega's specifications for ref. 220.10.41.21.01.001.

What is the lug width of the Aqua Terra 38 mm?

19 mm between the lugs, per Omega's specifications for ref. 220.10.38.20.03.001. Take a 19 mm strap rather than forcing a 20 mm one.

Can I fit any rubber strap to a post-2017 Aqua Terra?

Omega's own rubber straps for the 2017 generation are fitted to the case through a steel or Sedna gold link, with a tab between the lugs, so they sit tight to the case.

Does the Aqua Terra bracelet have micro-adjustment?

Since the 2024 black lacquer models, the butterfly clasp has an easy-comfort setting operated by pushers marked L and S, giving roughly 2 mm of extra length. Fratello found the range small.

The story of the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

Omega launched the Aqua Terra in 2002, a minimalist Seamaster recalling the clean design of the original Seamaster 300. Ten years later Daniel Craig chose a blue one for Skyfall, the first time James Bond wore something other than a dive watch.

Chapters

  1. 2019 to 2021
    Built for golfers and athletes

In 2019 Omega released the Aqua Terra Ultra Light, with a case in gamma titanium, a push-in crown and the brand's first titanium movement. Golfer Rory McIlroy contributed to its development, and the watch weighs 55 grams on its fabric strap.

  2. 2017 to 2021
    Symmetry and Master Chronometer

At Baselworld 2017 the line was reshaped: the teak lines turned horizontal, the date moved from 3 to 6 o'clock in homage to the 1952 Seamaster Calendar, and the case became symmetrical. METAS-certified calibres 8800 and 8900 replaced the 8500 family, and the large size dropped from 41.5 mm to 41 mm.

  3. 2013 to 2016
    Beating magnetism from inside

On 17 January 2013 in Geneva, Omega presented a movement resistant to magnetic fields above 15,000 gauss, built from non-ferrous materials rather than shielded by a soft iron cage. It went into an Aqua Terra with a 41.5 mm steel case, the first antimagnetic watch of its kind to show its movement through a sapphire back.

  4. 2008 to 2012
Teak decks and an in-house engine

In 2008, a year after Omega introduced its in-house calibre 8500, the Aqua Terra received it. The dial gained the teak pattern modelled on the decks of luxury yachts. In 2012 a blue mid-size version reached cinemas on Daniel Craig's wrist in Skyfall.

  5. 2002 to 2007
A Seamaster without a dive bezel

Omega added the Aqua Terra to the Seamaster family in 2002, drawing on the clean look of the original Seamaster 300. It launched with the calibre 2500, an ETA-based movement fitted with the Co-Axial escapement, and came in several sizes, with quartz versions for men and women.

Moments

In Skyfall (2012) Daniel Craig's Bond alternated a Planet Ocean with a blue Aqua Terra, the first time any Bond wore something other than a dive watch.

At the 17 January 2013 press conference, Omega showed a conventional watch stopping in a strong field while its prototype Aqua Terra kept running at 15,000 gauss. The production watch soon earned the nickname 'bumble bee' for its yellow and black seconds hand.

Omega announced in February 2015 a limited Aqua Terra for Spectre, sized at 41.5 mm and limited to 15,007 pieces. It retailed for £4,630.

Armand Duplantis cleared 6.15 metres in Rome wearing the Ultra Light, a watch designed to shrug off golf swings and falls onto a landing pad.

The large model of this generation measured 41.5 mm, before the 2017 redesign brought it to 41 mm.

  7. 2002
    First generation, calibre 2500

The original Aqua Terra used the Co-Axial calibre 2500, built on an ETA base, with quartz versions offered alongside in several sizes.

Help

What is lug width?

The gap between the two lugs that hold the strap, in millimetres. A new strap must match it exactly: 20 mm lugs take a 20 mm strap.

Measure it in 30 seconds

  1. Take the strap off, or look at the back of it: many straps print their width.
  2. Measure the inside gap between the lugs with a caliper or a millimetre ruler.
  3. Round to the nearest whole millimetre. Most watches use 18, 20 or 22 mm.

Strap, quick release or system?

Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
