A gift for 100 clients
Gianni Bulgari designed 100 gold LCD watches as gifts for the jeweller's best clients, with BULGARI and ROMA engraved on the bezel and a macrame cord strap. Since the only way to get one was as a gift, it became highly coveted and requests followed.
- 1976 to 1977
From Roma to Bulgari Bulgari
An analogue Roma followed in 1976, 30 mm in gold with a black dial and tall Arabic numerals at 12 and 6. In 1977 a second BVLGARI replaced ROMA on the bezel and the Bulgari Bulgari was launched as a full line, with Gerald Genta handling the exterior design.
- 1977 to 2012
Swiss heart, Roman face
Gianni Bulgari insisted on Swiss movements and priced the steel model at one million lire, low by Bulgari standards, to draw new customers into the Via Condotti shop. The watch made the classical V spelling the brand's established logo.
- 2013 to 2023
In-house calibre BVL 191
In 2013 the Bulgari Bulgari returned in 41 mm steel and pink gold with the in-house automatic BVL 191, 42 hours of reserve and date. The line was redesigned again in 2018, from lugs and crown to bezel and dials.
- 2024 to 2025
Back to gold, back to the roots
At LVMH Watch Week 2024 Bulgari showed solid gold 38 mm automatics and smaller quartz models that return to the 1970s look. For the 50th anniversary a 150-piece 38 mm yellow gold edition received a Verde Alpi marble dial.
