Roger FedererSport2022

Wore the new steel Air-King 126900 on the bench at the Laver Cup in London in September 2022, the doubles match with Rafael Nadal that ended his career.

His wife Olivia Munn gave him a 1982 Air-King, from his birth year, engraved "Malcolm's Dad" when their son was born in November 2021. He calls it his favourite watch and takes it on every trip.

Moments

Companies ordered the 5500 with their logo printed above 6 o'clock as staff rewards. A Domino's Pizza 5500 can now go above USD 10,000, more than a standard example.

At his final match, at the Laver Cup in London's O2 Arena, Federer did not wear a watch on court; the 2022 Air-King appeared on his wrist on the bench beside Nadal.

The Air-King name is printed in an italic typeface, an exception at Rolex; Rolex says Hans Wilsdorf chose it and that it has never changed.

Help

What is lug width?

The gap between the two lugs that hold the strap, in millimetres. A new strap must match it exactly: 20 mm lugs take a 20 mm strap.

Measure it in 30 seconds

  1. Take the strap off, or look at the back of it: many straps print their width.
  2. Measure the inside gap between the lugs with a caliper or a millimetre ruler.
  3. Round to the nearest whole millimetre. Most watches use 18, 20 or 22 mm.

Strap, quick release or system?

Most watches use spring bars, so any strap of the right width fits. Many smartwatches use their own band system instead, such as Apple Watch bands or Garmin QuickFit.
